It is an outward expression of an inward transformation.
Water baptism symbolises the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.
When someone goes under the water, it represents leaving their old life behind.
When they come up out of the water, it represents new life in Christ.
Romans 6:4
“We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Water baptism is one of the first steps of obedience after deciding to follow Jesus.
Jesus Himself was baptised and instructed His followers to do the same.
Baptism is not what saves us, but it is an important step that shows our faith and commitment to follow Him.
